Scope and Contents
In this second interview of two, William Firshein discusses topics including: working at Weseleyan as Daniel Ayres Professor of Biology Emeritus; grants from National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health; sabbaticals at the Department of Microbiology at Hebrew University (1961-1962), University of California La Jolla, Copenhagen Institute of Biology (1968-1969), and Institute Pasteur of Paris (1974-1975); work with American Society of Microbiology; construction of the Hall-Atwater laboratories at Wesleyan; receiving the Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health; teaching the course "Molecules, Microbes and Man" to non-science majors; introduction of science PhD programs at Wesleyan (1968); formation of the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry department (1982); work with colleagues Barry Keiffer and Spencer Berry; his family and children; the future of the science programs at Wesleyan; the global science community
