The letters found in this series are arranged chronologically. Some of the letters contain an answered date, which can be cross referenced with Series II: Correspondence - outgoing, 1873-1904. Includes correspondence, invoices, legal documents. Correspondence from framers nationwide with questions regarding crops and soils, letters concerning the Storrs Agricultural Experiment Station andcreation of others around the nation, letters with government officials concerning experiment stations, letters from magazine and newspaper editors regarding article submissions by Atwater, letter from merchants, returned statements for fertilizer analysis, and data tables. Correspondence found between Spencer Fullerton Baird, Orange Judd, T. S. Gold, Caleb T. Winchester, member of the Smithsonian Institution, and government officials from the US Department of Agriculture, Office of the Interior, Department of Labor, and War Department. Contact the archives for a list of specific letters from key figures. This series includes undated letters, some of which are found at the end of a specific year, some at the end of the serie as no year was given or could be determined.
