Series II: Administrative and academic records
Scope and Contents
The collection includes a variety of records that depict the growth and activities of the LGBTQ community at Wesleyan University from 1974-2006. The collection presents direct records created by the queer student body at the University, as well as news and web articles that provide historical context of the queer community’s growth from the 1970s to the new millenium. The records range from publications and fliers created by LGBTQ student groups, to historical information regarding the University’s administrative and academic representation of the queer community, to t-shirts and pins designed by students commemorating activism events over the years. Topics covered include: the lesbian, gay, intersex, and transgender experience; gender and transgender identity; queer studies and education; gay pride celebrations; gay and lesbian rights and culture; gay and lesbian students; gay and lesbian studies; gender nonconformity; sexual minority community; student movements; student protesters; women’s studies; Douglas Joseph Bennet Jr., and Wesleyan University.
