The collection contains the carbon typescript of Kay Boyle's 125-page project on German history, titled "The Noblest of Witnesses: A Modern History of Germany," with manuscript corrections. Boyle worked on this project while she was a fellow at Wesleyan's Center for Advanced Studies in the spring of 1963. It is unknown whether this manuscript was ever formally published.

Biographical / Historical

Kay Boyle (1902-1992) was an American writer and activist. Boyle was educated at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA and attended both the Ohio Mechanics Institute and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She completed a fellowship at Wesleyan University's Center for Advanced Studies in the years 1962-1963. Boyle was the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships, a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and two O. Henry awards.

Abstract

The collection contains the revised typescript of Kay Boyle's project on German history, which Boyle worked on during her time as a fellow at Wesleyan University in the years 1962-1963.

Arrangement

The collection was initially received in a single folder. Paperclips were removed and the typescript was refoldered and boxed into a slim hollinger box.
