Because of family hardships, he and three siblings spend the years 1893-1899 in the Massachusetts Lutheran orphanage at Brook Farm, which had earlier housed R.W. Emerson’s experimental Transcendental Community. Krumm apprenticed in the printshop there, learning the trade that eventually brought him to Middletown. He was employed by job printers Pelton and King from 1903 to 1925, when he joined the Middletown Press where he remained until his retirement in 1959. He died in Middletown on 2 January 1979.
