Scope and Contents
The William B. B. Moody papers on the Eclectic Society of Phi Nu Theta consists of his notes and research for the creation of his book, A History of the Eclectic Society of Phi Nu Theta, 1837-1970. A final master copy of the work is a part of this collection. Also part of the collection are the John Gettier ‘56 files on the Socratic Literary Society. The bulk of the collection consists of Moody’s research on the society from its foundation to the 1970s. These files are a combination of documents he used for the work as well as his notes and correspondence. Subjects also include initiates, prominent members and the societys standing on campus.

Biographical / Historical
William B.B. Moody, Wesleyan University class of 1959, spent 30 years as a cryptologist with the U.S. Navy. Upon leaving the Navy, Moody would head a high school foreign language department until his retirement. During his time at Wesleyan, he was a member of the Eclectic Society. The Eclectic Society of Phi Nu Theta was founded in 1837 and was Wesleyan’s second fraternity at the time.
