Biographical / Historical
Stanley Lebergott was a American economist and Professor or Economics at Wesleyan. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Michigan. In 1940 he joined the Bureau of Labor Statistics and joined the faculty at Wesleyan in 1962. During his time as a professor he wrote a book entitled "Manpower in Economic Growth" which was released in 1964 and another work, "Wealth and Want" in 1975. In 1993 his last book "Pursuing Happiness: American Consumers in the Twentieth Century" was published. He retired from teaching in 1995 and passed away in 2009 at his home in Middletown.
