 File — Box: 1, Folder: 2

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The letters housed in this collection are between Vanderbilt and fraternity brother Henry Maurice Darling. The majority of letters discuss the state of Gamma Phi and its ongoings. Of interest is Vanderbilt’s support for the fraternity to consider admitting an African American student into the Wesleyan chapter. Other subjects discussed are the place of fraternities on campus at the time the letters are written. Darling’s responses are not included in this collection. Also of note is a speech Vanderbilt delivered at the anniversary dinner of the Phi Beta Kappa Association in 1951 that was printed in 1953.
