Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection is comprised of materials created and accumulated by writer, composer, and teacher, Richard K. Winslow. The materials include scores, notes, recordings, and ephemera regarding Winslow's operas and operettas, as well as a large collection of general and miscellaneous compositions. In addition to the musical materials, the collection includes the notes, essays, and correspondence of Winslow throughout his career. The collection also includes a range of audio materials, including reel tapes, cassette tapes, and LPs of recordings of both Winslow's own compositions and the compositions and recordings of his colleagues and other poets and musicians. The records of his operas and operettas are comprised primarily of scores, both master scores and scores for individual instrument section parts. The notes and correspondence in the collection include communications between Winslow and John Cage, Norman O. Brown, and Merce Cunningham, among others. The collection spans a variety of Winslow's works and mediums, and includes the seminal and more niche works of Winslow throughout his career, in addition to works created by his mentors, inspirations (Shakespeare, Frost), students, and family.
