Scope and Contents
Includes his correspondence and personal papers. Atwater's letters to his future wife include commentary on his classes, lectures and concerts he attended. He records his observations of people he meets in Washington, D.C. and abroad including his introduction to Leon Trotsky (1897). The series includes letters to his children. The series also contains some personal papers from his days at Wesleyan, a diary of study notes and lab notebooks, and correspondence and other materials documenting his travels in Brussels, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, and Cuba. His letters sometimes mention plans for the Chicago World's Fair (1893) and the Bruxelles Exposition Universelle.
