Scope and Contents
The Albert Harrison Hoyt papers are a series of letters written to and by Albert H. Hoyt before and during his time at Wesleyan University, as well as a report of his time as a colonel with the 12th Connecticut Regiment in 1863 during the Civil War.

Biographical / Historical
Albert Harrison Hoyt graduated from Wesleyan in 1850. After leaving Middletown, Hoyt studied law in Portsmouth, New Hampshire before joining the Civil War as a paymater, rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel. After the end of the war, he would become the editor of the "New Englad Historical and Genealogical Register. He was elected as a member of the American Antiquarian Society in 1875.
