Scope and Contents
The Clarence Everett Bacon papers consist of his papers, correspondence and numerous photos, albums, and scrapbooks. The collection also features awards and trophies with a bulk of these being from his tennis tournments. The majority of trophies in the collection are not ones he earned from Wesleyan but during his college years.

Biographical / Historical
Clarence Everett Bacon was born August 18, 1890 in Southhampton, NY. He would attend Wesbrook High School in Westbrook, CT before enrolling in Wesleyan in 1909. While at Wesleyan, Bacon was a quaterback for the Cardinals, pioneering the forward pass. During his college years, Bacon was an All-American both in 1910 and again in 1912. After graduating in 1913, he went on to serve in World War I and later become a Wall Street investment banker. In 1966, Bacon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Besides football, Bacon was a four sport athelete who captained the basketball team, was pitcher on the baseball team and was a member of the New England doubles team in tennis in 1910. Wesleyan annually awards the C. Everett Bacon Trophy to its most valuable football player as well as the Bacon Field house is named in his honor.
Clarence Everett Bacon passed away on February 1, 1989.
