George W. Davison collection
Scope and Contents
The George W. Davison collection pertains to the life, death and gifts of George W. Davison, who graduated Wesleyan University in 1892, and afterwards made many donations to Wesleyan University. The hollinger box contains a photo album of a trip to Florida taken by George W. Davidson, blueprints of a portion of the property of J. Edgar Bowman Estate in Greenwich, CT, a copy of Garden Notes by Harriet B. Davison, George W. Davison bookplate and prints, clippings, “Outline Specifications for Alteration”, the December 1918 edition of House and Garden, a copy of a map of Village of Saddle Rock, records of the George W. Davison rare book collection and print collection at Wesleyan University, correspondence, miscellaneous writings by and about George W Davison, art writings, as well as other miscellaneous writings, notes, minutes and schedules related to George W. Davison. The half hollinger box contains illuminated copies of resolutions of appreciation towards George W. Davison on his death by Board of Directors of the Virginia Railroad Company, the Board of Directors of the United Fruit Company, the Board of Directors of the Chrysler Corporation, and the Boards of Directors of the Continental Insurance Company and the Fidelity and Casualty Company of New York. The dark blue flat hollinger box contains the Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation Annual Report for 1953, which contains a eulogy to George W. Davison, who was a director and member of the executive committee of Union Carbide and Carbon Corporation, a piece of correspondence, and an illuminated copy of the resolution of appreciation towards George W. Davison by the Hanover Bank Board of Trustees. The yellow flat hollinger box contains loose-leaf notes on Whistler’s prints, by George W. Davison.

Biographical / Historical
George Davison graduated Wesleyan in 1892. After graduation he married Harriet R. Baldwin and became a banker in New York. In the 1930s, the Davisons began donating their large collection of prints to Wesleyan. In 1952, the Davison Art Center was established through their efforts. The couple also donated a large collection of rare books that make up a part of the Special Collections and Archives.
