Scope and Contents
The collection consists of both the typescript and printing galleys for Murphy’s The Teaching of Short Stories and Novels. Also included are typed and handwritten notes -- written on, and potentially including, exams given to English classes -- with reading questions and various points to make about the literature that Murphy’s book discusses.

Biographical / Historical
Geraldine J. Murphy was the first woman hired as a full-time instructor at Wesleyan in 1957. She also was the first woman promoted to a tenured position and the first to be promoted to the rank of full professor.
