This small collection contains genealogical information on the Ingraham family, 5 letters written by H.C.M. Ingraham during his senior year at Wesleyan (1863-64), a journal kept by his brother, William Murphy Ingraham between 1846 and 1856, and other miscellaneous items related to the Ingraham family.

Biographical / Historical
The Ingraham family had strong ties to Wesleyan. Three brothers graduated in the mid-nineteenth century: Richard Ingraham (1842), William Murphy Ingraham (1846), and Henry Cruise Murphy Ingraham (1864). William became a Wesleyan Trustee in 1883. Henry’s son, Henry Andrews Ingraham was Wesleyan class of 1900. This Ingraham family may be descendants of the Ingram family that owned Temple Newsam, a stately home in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England in the 17th through the 19th centuries.

Abstract
This collection contains information about the Ingraham family, many of whom attended Wesleyan in the 19th century. William Murphy Ingraham was a Wesleyan Trustee in 1883. The collection contains a journal he kept upon his graduation from Wesleyan in 1846 until 1856. It also contains 5 essays written by his brother, Henry Cruise Murphy Ingraham, during his final year at Wesleyan (1863-64).
Immediate Source of Acquisition
These items were dontaed by Mary [Ingraham] Bunting in April 1979. Ms. Bunting was the granddaughter of H.C.M. Ingraham.
