Biographical / Historical
Jim Sugar began his career as a working photographer three days after graduating with Honors from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut in 1967 when National Geographic hired him as a summer intern. Two years later he joined as a full-time contract photographer, and he worked for the National Geographic Society until 1992.
During his 22 years in that role Jim illustrated 35 articles in National Geographic Magazine and 3 books for the National Geographic book division. He also shot 9 covers for Popular Mechanics Magazine, and six cover stories for Boy’s Life.

Abstract
James A. Sugar, ('67), professionally known as "Jim" was a contract photographer for National Geographic for 22 years. This collection is almost entirely portraits of Wesleyan faculty and administrators. It also includes three views of Dennison Terrace, located between Olin Library and Andrus Field.
