Biographical / Historical
Jib Fowles, Wesleyan class of 1963, was born August 14, 1940 in Hartford, Connecticut. After receiving his Bachelor's degree, Fowles attended Columbia Univeristy and then NYU receiving a Ph.D. in Philosophy. His teaching career saw posts at both NYU and University Houston-Clear Lake in media studies.
Fowles is the author of a number of works including "Why Viewers Watch: A Reappraisal of Television's Effects," "Mass Advertising as Social Forecast," "Advertising and Popular Culture (Feminist Perspective on Communication)," and "Starstruck."
