Scope and Contents
Papers of artist, filmmaker, and Wesleyan art professor (1959-2002) John Frazer, including biographical material, photographs and slides of his paintings and drawings, writings (articles and book reviews), clippings and gallery show announcements, “correspondence with notables,” including Pauline Kael, Elia Kazan, and Jules Dassin, and catalogs and posters (many designed by Frazer) of art, film, dance, and theater productions and exhibitions at Wesleyan and featuring his work.

Biographical / Historical
John Frazer, originally from Texas, began his teaching career at Wesleyan in 1959. He taught the first filmaking courses at the University and help found the film program. The John Frazer Visiting Artist Endowment Fund was created in 1999. John would retire from teaching in 2001.
Frazer's own paintings have been shown in exhibitions thoughout the United States and he has created over seven films. During his time at Wesleyan, Frazer served on the Middletown Commission on the Arts and the Committee for Design and Preservation.
John Frazer passed away on July 7, 2014 at the age of 82.
