Biographical / Historical

Ralza M. Manly [1822-1897] graduated from Wesleyan in 1848. He would become a Methodist Episcopal minister and teacher. During the Civil War he became a chaplin in the 16th regiment. In 1865, the Freedman's Bureau placed him in charg of schools for emancipated slaves. He would go on toe stablish the Richmond Educational Assoication and a high school to help improve the training of African American teachers.
