Scope and Contents

The Paul Dennis papers include correspondence, photos, and ephemera related to both Dennis’s period as a student at Wesleyan University, as well as the awarding of the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by the university. The correspondence series includes two letters related to a job offer made to Dennis by Wesleyan. The photo series includes three photos from a student play, one of Dennis with three friends, one from a Pi Kappa Tau (∏KT) parade, and five other group photos from various Greek organizations, student groups, or sports teams. The ephemera series includes Dennis’s gold and enamel fraternity pin for Delta Kappa Epsilon (ΔKE), the honorary Doctor of Divinity diploma, and his wooden pledge paddle for Pi Kappa Tau (∏KT).

Biographical / Historical

Paul Gill Dennis was born August 25, 1887 in Newark, New Jersey. He earned the B.A. from Wesleyan University in 1910 and went on to study divinity from 1910 to 1913 at Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey where he earned the B.D. According to the 1931 publication of the centennial (sixth) edition of the Alumni Record of Wesleyan University, Dennis resided at that time at 346 E. 37th St in Paterson, New Jersey. He was awarded the honorary D.D. by Wesleyan on June 16, 1935.
