Abstract
Geological and geographical lantern slides.
Arrangement
The lantern slides are organized in two ways as of now. Box 1 serves as a guide to how the rest of the collection could be organized. The general categories, which follow on the next page, are ones that encompass many of the slides throughout of the collection; the final organization should follow so that these general categories would be found together in boxes. The final organization should be the larger category (ex. Biology), followed by the more specific category (ex. Bats), and then slides would be grouped together with like (ex. All of the pictures of bats grouped together, all of the drawings of bats grouped together). Entire boxes would be dedicated to Biology slides in the final organization. There would also be the elimination of any labeling on “unlabeled.” For all of the boxes besides Box 1, they are preliminarily organized in the order in which they were received. When the lantern slides were shipped, there seemed to be some organization done by the sender. Boxes of slides were grouped together in bubble wrap and some of these groupings had labels on them (ex. Biology). The headings listed below, and those found on the slips of paper within the archival boxes, are written so that the capitalized word was the label on the bubble wrap (ex. BIOLOGY) and the lower case words were the label on the box if there was one (ex. beavers). Each slide was then put in an envelope and numbered, but the existing order of the slides within the categories is not important. They were simply placed that way because that was the order in which I put them into the envelopes and then placed them in the boxes. There are about 60 slides in each of the archival boxes.
