Biographical / Historical

McCormick was a graduate of the Wesleyan Class of 1948. He was born in Boston on April 20, 1923 and served as an ensign in the Navy from 1943-45. He married Therese A. Duprat of Winooski, Vermont in October 1952. They had eight children: Thomas E. (September 1953), John J. (February 1955), Mark E. (November 1956), Richard B. (February 1958), James M. (June 1959), Peter (1961), Kathleen (1962), and Theresa (1964). He worked as a reporter for the Burlington News (Vermont) from 1949-51 and as a rewrite reporter for UP in New York, 1951-54. From 1957-60, McCormick was the associate editor of the Vermont Catholic Tribune; associate editor at the University of Vermont from 1960-78; and head of the office of information at UVM from 1978-84. He is probably best known as the author of “Our Boarding House with Major Hoople” a syndicated comic panel.
