Biographical / Historical
Vernon K. Dibble (1932-1980), Wesleyan class of 1954, was one of three original faculty of the Sociology Department at Wesleyan, founded in 1967. He did his graduate work at Columbia University (PhD 1961), and was an assistant professor there until 1967.
His book: "The Legacy of Albion Small" (Chicago, 1975) was a profile of one of the fathers of Sociology. At the time of his death, he was researching American sociologist, Charles Horton Cooley.

Abstract
Vernon K. Dibble ('54) was professor of sociology at Wesleyan from 1967 until his death in 1980. This collection includes materials from his graduate work at Columbia University and his professional work at Columbia and Wesleyan.
Arrangement
These papers, from the two filing cases in his former office, were culled and grouped by Ursula Dibble before accession.
