Biographical / Historical
The Chemistry department records include information on the Leermakers Symposium and Max Tishler Day.
The Leermakers Symposium was established in memory of Professor Peter Anthony Leermakers in 1972. The symposium was an annual one day meeting focused on a single topic in chemistry.
Professor of Chemistry Max Tishler established the symposium after Leermakers passing in 1971. Tishler, earned his Ph.D in organic chemistry from Harvard University in 1934. In 1970 he retired from a job at a Merck Sharp and Dohme Research Laboratories and began his teaching career at Wesleyan. Tishler passed away in 1989.
