Wesleyan University Friends of the Library newsletters

 Collection
Identifier: 1000-462

Scope and Contents

Collection is made up of four publications. First, "The Library Newsletter for Friends of the Olin Library" which includes information on exhibits shown at Olin Library and their locations in the specific rooms. Second, "Wesleyan Library Notes" published from 1968-1990. "Wesleyan Library Notes" took the place of "About Books" published by the library from 1930-1948. The Notes is not intended to be a scholarly review, but rather a journal of information about the library’s collections, acquisitions, and activities - information which hopefully will promote new and better friendship with alumni, faculty, students, and other book-lovers with an interest in Wesleyan. Third, "Wesleyan Library Newsletter" was published from 1988-1993. And the final incarnation, "Check It Out" (1998-2019) was used to strengthen communication between the library and the Wesleyan University community.

Biographical / Historical

Wesleyan Library Notes - In the Summer of 1968, after nearly a year’s planning by a special committee of the Alumni Council together with members of the library staff, the Friends of the Wesleyan Library was formed with the stated purpose of fostering fuller alumni participation in the support and benefits of the Wesleyan library. The issuance of Wesleyan Library Notes will be a major means of implementing the objectives of the Friends. This is the first such publication since the demise (with volume 18, no. 3/4 March/June 1948) of About Books, a small, informative quarterly put out during Fremont Rider’s tenure as librarian and sponsored by an earlier Friends group founded in the 1930’s. The Notes is not intended to be a scholarly review, but rather a journal of information about the library’s collections, acquisitions, and activities - information which hopefully will promote new and better friendship with alumni, faculty, students, and other book-lovers with an interest in Wesleyan.

Wesleyan Library Newsletter - Issued occasionally for the University community, the Friends of the Wesleyan Library, and other friends of the University. Publication is made possible by the Friends of the Wesleyan Library.

Check It Out - As library collections and services grow and change at a faster pace than at any other time in our history, we recognize the need to strengthen communication between the library and the University community. Check It Out, a new newsletter intended to appear twice a semester, offers current information about ever-changing library resources and services.
