He was born on Whitehead Island, Maine in 1884 and went from this remote beginning to a varied career that spanned lobster fisherman in Maine, reindeer agent in Alaska, published poet and firm friend of Robert Frost, and Deputy Governor of Connecticut. Wilbert Snow Elementary School in Middletown, CT is named for him. He held teaching positions at 7 institutions of higher education, including 31 years at Wesleyan.* He was the father of 5 sons, one of whom died at age 14.
